Originating from Pensacola, FL, Dr. Kara Barkley has been part of the world of dentistry for well over a decade. Not only does she love providing essential dental care for improving smiles, but she also finds it incredibly rewarding to educate her patients on their oral health. Read on to learn more about her background and education before coming in for your appointment.

Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?

Dr. Barkley once volunteered at a Saturday event where dentists were working on people’s teeth for free. While there, she witnessed the passion and happiness that the professionals had in serving others. This was always the kind of environment she aspired to work in someday, and so she was inspired to pursue a career in dentistry. Now, she feels fulfilled every day being able to help her patients feel healthier and more confident about their smiles.

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

Dr. Barkley first attended Texas Christian University for her undergraduate degree. She later went on to study at the University of Florida College of Dentistry for her dental doctorate. She also completed her Advanced Education in General Dentistry at Naval Hospital San Diego. Over the years, she’s undergone hundreds of hours of continuing education in general dentistry as well as military leadership courses and training. Currently, she is a member of the SPEAR Study Club and is working on joining other local societies and study groups so that she can continue refining her skills and expertise.

Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

Aside from treating pearly whites and fixing smiles, Dr. Barkley enjoys being with her husband and their beautiful daughter. Together, they love playing at the parks in DFW as well as going on trips to the zoo. She also enjoys being able to do arts and crafts with her daughter, which was something she liked growing up. One fun fact about her: Dr. Barkley grew up as a “military brat” and lived in 10 different places before going to college. While she enjoyed seeing new places and meeting new people often, she always wanted to find a forever home to raise her family in!
